Dalziel & Pow for Molton Brown

Choosing a personal signature scent can be overwhelming.

With over 2000 fragrances being launched each year, the need to stand out in a crowded market is paramount. I worked with Dalziel & Pow for Molton Brown, helping the brand launch their new Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette, and position themselves as fragrance leaders, distinguished by their personalized twist on finding the right fragrance.

The main aspect of this project was to design, prototype & help develop an interactive profiling tool that charts your emotional reactions, matching them to your personality with a distinctive scent. Simple in design but far from simple in thought and execution.

The solution

We knew that we had to make fragrance integral to the experience. So we spent time getting to know Molton Brown as a brand with a unique point of view on the world of fragrance and also immersed ourselves in the world of today’s discerning beauty shopper - uncovering trends for personalization, quality ingredients, and well-being rituals. We defined a flagship concept of ‘Curious by Nature’, inviting people to discover Molton Brown’s scents across various touch points and be rewarded by their intrigue through:

A selection of images carefully selected to match the 2000 different fragrances on offer.

A completely interactive experience that will delight the users in 2 minutes or less, matching them to their ideal fragrance, in a beautiful design created to capture and retain the user's attention and stimulate conversion.

Result

    • Innovation in online & offline retail sales and the selection of fragrances.
    • The use of Design, Ai, and smart algorithms to create a personalised user experience.
    • This completed live project received the Retail Design
Institute Award in 2019.
    • Today Fragrance Finder is considered an extremely
successful experiment in transforming the retail journey
both online and in-store with interactive and sensory methods. Fragrance finder is still in use today on Molton Brown’s web platforms internationally, unchanged from my designs for Dalziel & Pow created in 2018.
